In the Middle Ages a chatelaine or castellan held the keys to the castle. Chatelaine is the female form and castellan is the male form of the word and it refers to the officer who assists newcomers in the Society for Creative Anachronism. In some kingdoms the term hospitaller is used instead of chatelaine.
As your Chatelaine I can assist you with information and garb for your first event, and introduce you to people who share your interests. All are welcome to our events, young and old. Wearing period clothing or "garb" is highly recommended. Come and meet new friends and begin to learn about the SCA. Feel free to walk up to any member of our shire and ask questions. Just say, "I'm new. Can you tell me what is happening here?" Our shire will be honored to help you enjoy your time spent in the SCA as we all learn about chivalry, honor, and courtesy of the Middle Ages.
